Another component of The HCL Group’s retail operations, Eastern Commercial Lands (ECL) was formed in October 2003 to acquire 4 strategic branches of Tru Valu Supermarkets Limited, one of Trinidad’s leading supermarket chains, as well as the Brand Name.

Since this acquisition, the Trincity Mall branch of Tru Valu has been expanded to 65,000 square feet, making it the largest supermarket in Trinidad & Tobago. ECL has also moved to add value to the Tru Valu shopping experience by catering to today’s more health conscious consumers and enhancing the convenience offered in all its stores. An
example of this is the recent introduction of large, easy-to-read cash register screens so shoppers can keep easy tabs of their purchases. In addition, ECL accepts perhaps the widest range of reward/discount cards of any supermarket in the country.

ECL is also currently exploring synergies with other retail operations and offer greater choice and convenience to customers. With a staff of 300, ECL continues to meet and anticipate customers’ needs and set the standard and pace for other supermarkets to follow.

The newely renovated and enhanced services at Long Circular Mall in St. James include a bakery, indoor cafe, delicatessen, pharmacy, seafood mart and wine cellar.
